Anna Caroline Vertelo is a PhD student in the History Department at Harvard University, where she studies urban maroon communities in Brazil and their (re-)writings of history. Her project explores the contemporary meanings of Quilombo and how they align or contrast with the experiences of historic communities. She holds an M.A. in History from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) and a B.A. in History from the State University of Minas Gerais (UEMG).
