Mary Hicks is Assistant Professor of Black Studies and History at Amherst College. She is the Mark Claster Mamolen Fellow in Afro-Latin American Studies, Du Bois Institute and ALARI. Her research project is: Captivity’s Commerce: Black Mariners and the World of South Atlantic Slavery, 1721-1835.
