Jaqueline Martinho is a Ph.D. student at the University of São Paulo whose research focuses on slavery, racism, and racial relations in Brazilian history and society.  At Harvard from August 2023 to July 2024, she will analyze photographs of Black, Mestizos, and Indigenous Brazilians, taken during the Thayer Expedition (1865-66). Prior to her Ph.D., she completed a Bachelor’s in history at the University of São Paulo as well as a master’s in science from the Graduate Program of Social History at the University of São Paulo.
